Deliveroo is rolling out a new Rider Check-in feature in Ireland to make deliveries quicker and easier for riders, restaurants and customers.
30 January 2025, Dublin: Deliveroo is rolling out a new Rider Check-in feature in Ireland to make deliveries quicker and easier for riders, restaurants and customers.
The new feature is designed to help reduce rider wait times and improve communication between restaurants and riders, streamlining the order pick-up experience and ultimately helping to achieve faster deliveries for customers.
It means riders will tap their phone to “check in” using an NFC tag at a physical check-in point when they arrive at a restaurant to pick up an order, similar to using Apple Pay or Google Pay.
The check-in points will provide restaurants with more accurate, real-time data about rider arrival times, which can then be used to try and reduce how long riders have to wait, allowing a swift turnaround and shorter delivery time for customers. It will also allow restaurants to minimise crowding at collection points by carrying out faster handovers.
The initiative follows a recent rollout to more than 2,000 sites across the UK, with plans to roll out across all sites in Ireland by the end of 2025. It is currently available in several restaurants across Ireland including Burger King, Boojum and Xian Street Food.
Helen Maher, Ireland Regional Director at Deliveroo, said: “At Deliveroo, perfecting the delivery experience is fundamental to everything we do. With our new Rider Check-in feature, we're increasing efficiency by eliminating friction points, ultimately benefiting restaurants, riders and customers alike.”
Cumali Aydin, Restaurant Owner at Reyna & Chiya, said: “We are excited by the new check-in system, a simple innovation that will enhance the pick-up process and ensure a smoother delivery experience for the benefit of everyone."
The feature is part of Deliveroo’s commitment to continuously innovating to find incremental improvements that optimise the delivery experience - enhancing customer satisfaction, driving efficiencies in its delivery network and reducing order inaccuracy and defects.
Deliveroo understands that delivering flawless orders is key to building consumer trust and reliability, in turn, growing its core restaurant business by driving customer retention and acquisition, plus order frequency and spend.
