Tuesday 24th August 2021: Deliveroo is inviting anyone in the area along the Grand Canal from Wilton Terrace to Charlemont Mall to get involved in a community effort this Saturday 28th between 10am and 1pm. Deliveroo representatives will be in the area to give out buckets and litter pickers and in exchange for a filled bucket of rubbish, volunteers will receive a €20 credit voucher to use on the Deliveroo app.
The Grand Canal has provided a great setting for summer picnics and outdoor get togethers since restrictions were lifted earlier this year, and by way of saying thank-you to the planet, Deliveroo wanted to give the place an end of summer clear out!
John Tuohy, from Dublin City Council Waste Management Department, said; “We are always glad to see and encourage community initiatives that help keep Dublin city and all its wonderful resources litter free and ready for people to enjoy. We’re pleased to be able to help Deliveroo with this community effort and hope it is a great success and gets the community participation and support it deserves.”
Arabella Jenkins of Deliveroo, said: “It’s rare that we get this much sunshine in Ireland. These moments are special and deserve amazing food and drink to go with them but it’s equally important to safeguard the local environment and play our part in ensuring we keep the Grand Canal clean. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dublin City Council, who have supported our efforts by collecting all rubbish collected on the day”.
Members of the Friends of the Grand Canal group will also be out in force on the following Saturday, September 4th along the canal. The group meets once a month to clean up along the canal towpaths, beginning at Leeson Street Bridge. The local volunteer clean-up group welcomes any canal side initiatives that draw attention to the issue of littering in the area.
