14th December 2022: Last month, Deliveroo Ireland announced a year-long partnership with FoodCloud which saw the food delivery company commit to fundraising on behalf of the food waste and food security social enterprise to provide up to 500,000 meals to people facing hunger across Ireland.

Since the start of November, Deliveroo customers across Ireland have had the option of rounding-up their order to the nearest euro when paying for their takeaway or groceries. To date, Deliveroo technology has enabled an average of €2,500 to be raised each week, which means approximately 54,768 meals have already been provided to communities in need since launching the partnership. For every €1 raised, 3.2 meals are being provided to people facing food insecurity across the country.

To help provide emergency support in the lead up to Christmas, Deliveroo has pledged to match the donations of its generous customers from 14th - 20th of December. By matching customer donations made via the in-app feature, Deliveroo aims to support FoodCloud by providing up to 17,000 meals for redistribution to people facing hunger during the run-up to Christmas.

This latest fundraising drive will help Deliveroo come closer to realising its ambition of helping FoodCloud save 210 million tonnes of food from going to waste over the course of the next year, which will prevent 675 tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere and damaging the environment in the process.

Commenting on the fundraising, Paddy Quinlan, Senior Regional Manager at Deliveroo Ireland stated: “We have been blown away by the generosity of our customers to date. We’re very proud that our technology has enabled donations to FoodCloud as part of our Full Life Campaign, and couldn’t be more delighted to match donations in the run up to Christmas.”

Iseult Ward, CEO & Co-Founder, FoodCloud said: “Thank you to every Deliveroo customer who has donated to FoodCloud over the past month and to Deliveroo, who will be matching donations in the run up to Christmas. No matter how small the donation, it helps us with our vital work tackling the twin issues of food waste and food insecurity.
